Uma Sankar is a Software Development Lead in our Chennai office. She’s been at ZoomRx for over four years and has worked in software development for seven. Uma’s deep understanding of the backend of ZoomRx's business technologies and enthusiasm toward mentoring more junior members of the team have made her a huge part of our success over the years.
What’s your role at ZoomRx?
As a Software Development Lead, my primary role is to create systems that support ZoomRx's business needs and identify best practices for new technologies. I also mentor junior developers, enabling them to take on greater challenges.
What is something unexpected you've learned from a manager or teammate?
Many things come to mind. Our teams are able to engage and motivate employees, while also providing balance and fun. ZoomRxers are also generous with their time and are willing to collaborate and help others.
What aspect of your role do you enjoy most? What keeps you excited in your work?
I really enjoy developing and building our platform to uplift user experience. Another fulfilling aspect of my role is the opportunity it presents to mentor and guide more junior team members.
What advice would you give others looking to pursue a career in software development at ZoomRx?
Before starting ZoomRx, I was a FrontEnd developer, but I switched to BackEnd when I joined ZoomRx. There are no restrictions on what you should know to apply for a role in our team. Just be strong and sound in the basics and fundamentals. A willingness to learn and grow is definitely important.
What do you do in your free time outside of work?
In my spare time, I read fiction and mythology books by local authors. I also enjoy a variety of exercises, ranging from yoga to boxing. I’m naturally curious, so when possible, I travel and try to learn new languages.
What or who is your greatest motivator?
I believe that the will to get going is within us and that is a mindset that truly guides and motivates my way of being and work ethic.
